A native of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, Roger studied architecture and fine arts at Carnegie Institute of Technology. He also studied painting and design at the Carnegie Institute during his teen age years and went on to become a well known artist and architect in the Pittsburgh area and South Florida after 1970. His specialties are in the watercolor and acrylic medias, utilizing bright and dynamic color combinations to achieve the unusual lighting effects that many of his paintings exhibit. His acrylic paintings are in the impressionistic tradition, utilizing the color combinations and layering of paint to achieve the unusual light reflections that are characteristic of his work.

Roger is well traveled and his paintings reflect the many places where he and his wife, Nancy, have traveled over the years. For the past 10 years the Pierces have lived each summer in the central New York State area where Roger has painted many landscape scenes including farm scenes, waterfront scenes and mountain scenes. His travels have taken him on painting assignments to the New England coast, the Rocky Mountain regions of the West, England and Ireland, Germany, and the beaches of North Carolina and Florida.

The Pierce's make their home in Central Florida and that is where Roger's studio is located. His work is currently sold through galleries in Clermont, Florida and Ithaca, New York.

Roger's award-winning work has been exhibited in many locations throughout the United States and pieces are now included in both public and private collections internationally.
